Meet Jay & Kim

The story behind our head guides

Jay and Kim are true outdoor enthusiasts. Jay spent his teenage years working in a local ski shop, unearthing a lifelong passion for sharing his backcountry knowledge and experience with others. That early spark evolved into a successful 30-year career within the sporting goods industry.

In 2016, when Jay and Kim purchased The Guide’s Hut, it was far more than a business venture—it was a professional and familial dream come true. Today, the Carter family proudly calls Fernie home. There is truly no perfect place for them to help inspire others to get outside, gear up, and discover the legendary Fernie lifestyle for themselves.
